does any1 know if there are any pet shops/breeders selling pygmy beardies in vic?..i was told that there are pet stores that have them but am not having any luck...its like no1 in vic has them..i really dont wanna go to a pet shop to get them (went to 1 the other day and more than half the lizards were missing toes or feet)...they really dont treat them properly at all...i would not get them if the conditions they were living in were poor or they didnt look healthy, but at this point im willing to give it a shot and take a look if they have them here..if any1 knows any,let me kno
thanks

As has been Stated Sofoula88, They are on the Advanced licence in Victoria, so Pet Stores won't have them as a displayers licence is not worth the hassle for most stores. There are some breeders that will freight from NSW, it may mean you will have to buy a complete clutch or pay more than they are asking but if you really just want them than you will do anything.

We have a yearling pair and they really are a great dragon, best explanation is a bit of a mix between netteds and beardies, very acitve but still proud little guys.

BTW, there are a few petshops around Melb that are good, it's a true shame not all can be at the same standard.

Dixilizards-Well from what ive seen I didn't think they had them either, the guy who told me they had them in pet stores was a pet store owner..lol ,so I dunno..but I'm pretty sure ur right..and as for the pet shops..I'm sure there are good 1s out there but honestly iv yet to encounter 1..kinda like ufo's ..lol ..the thing that I don't get is the ppl that work there..I tried for ages to get a job at a pet store because I love animals with a passion, but they always already have staff and wernt hiring ..and when I went into the stores, and asked questions they didn't seem to care at all bout the animals themselves or well being..it's like why are you working with animals if you dnt realli like animals..I dunno it's very frustrating to see..but anyway I'll keep looking as I am for the beardies..

Sometimes the problems with petstores is not the staff but often the owner/manager that will not allow the staff the time needed to care for the reptiles as they are more interested in the staff making sales. By this I mean, staff are told to attend each and every customer as they enter the store, as I am sure you can imagine this leaves little time for the staff to actually complete a task i.e. cleaning out an enlcoure at times... I have personally seen a staff member take almost half an hour just to get enough time to sift the sand in one 2ft x 2ft enclosure because they were constantly having to stop return the animal to the enclosure, lock the enclosure, clean there hands, put the trolley out of the way and attend the customer.... then it all started again once the customer left the shop after just a quick look around..

I know I have personally missed cleaning an enclosure because my phone rang or something else took away my concentration away and the next day when I was thinking alls clean I notice I missed one so I clean it and then decide to just keep going and tidy the others again and again something interrupts me and the same thing happens either later that day or the next.. It becomes a vicious cycle and I don't envy the employees in these stores, if they do keep cleaning they lose their jobs if they don't they lose their jobs... where does it end??

I'd be interested to know who mentioned to you that they have Pygmy Beardies in store as I only know of one store that has a displayers licence here in Victoria, know of plenty with the Demonstrators...

the person who told me I think was a manager at a local pet store(dnt wanna name names) but I asked about them and told him bout them jst coming on the licence and me not thinking they had them here..he said no ppl do have them..then I asked if they hadthem in pet shops here..and he said yes,and said there becoming more popular now and more ppl are getting en and showed ne an article they had on them in the reptile magazine

I can only think he maybe getting confused with NSW licencing but I can assure you your run of the mill Commercial Licence that petstores need to sell reptiles/native mammals and certain bird species does not allow animals on the Advanced licence to be sold, unless they have the magical Displayers licence to have them on the premises.

Pm me if you like with the store, but also if you come across a breeder in NSW that is willing to freight to you but you need to up numbers on the purchase let me know a few more isn't a problem as they are so small and are also kept well in colonies.

U confused me abit with that last part..I just came from the store, the guy there seems to be nice enough,he seems to be an enthusiast but almost all the lizards in there are missing toes, entire feet or arms, eyes are droopy..I dnt think there was 1 that was healthy in there..I wanted to ask why and I didn't,now I feel bad..they have beautiful lizards with beautiful colours there and it's a shame..I dnt see how any1 is gonna buy them in the condition there in,and it's probably a result of having a bunch in 1 tank..and a small 1 at that..I dnt understand why they treat them like that..it's not gonna get them buisness like that all it does is make those poor creatures live short, miserable lives =[

Also he told me I should have very low humidity for beardies..and a small water bowl..others have told me to have a bowl big enough for them to submerge themselves in...which is correct?

Reckon you should go with what people have told you, ours have enough of a water bowl to completely submerge themselves in, however it's not overly deep just enough to do and so they can easily get out.

More care must be taken with hatchies and yearlings/juveniles as if they can't get out easily they can drown.

reptiles shops cant have pygmy beardies, ive spoken to a couple of people about them(i work in a reptile shop) but as soon as people hear they are on advanced licence, they decide they would rather something like a central netted or a jacky. if you really really want a pygmy beardie, the best thing to do is to just keep chasing, eventually you will find someone willing to freight.

i do want them, but truthfully i dont even think i can afford them this way...and i dont think any1 is willing to freight them anyway...im hardly finding any1 willing to freight and even if they are,the will usualli not wanna freight less than 3...and i only want 1...also i want a grey/yellow phase..and if i cant find any1,i kinda cant afford to be picky...so im gonna wait til i get my licence in and if i havent sorted something out by then,im just going to get centrals...ill be a bit bummed..but ill get over it..lol
