Just wondering what the general thoughts are on these pygmy crocs. I read the ad on the Herp Trader and am pretty keen. Though I am in NSW (but wanting to get my exhibitioners licence so that may allow me to get one). So we are seriously considering it.

The ad says that these three may be the last ones available due to recent developments. What developments? Can't they be bred?

Also that they can live out their life in a 6ft tank. Is that going to be big enough for a metre long reptile?

Just wanted a little feedback...

The ones I saw at the reptile expo (pics in the expo gallery) were, i was told, as big as they got. They were about 90cm tl including the tail and they looked uncomfotably cramped in the 6ft display tank they had. I would say One that size (if indeed they dont get bigger) in maybe a custom 9ft.3ft tank. Maybe. A pond would be better.
There are, i beleive, certain strings attached to a display license including, if im not mistaken, a clause including compulsary displays each year #? Ive heard no news about it but i cant see them going on licences anytime soon, atleast here in NSW. :(

Instar is correct. NSW Agric are trying to bring in new rules stating that exhibitors must do a set amount of displays per month. I think the motive here would be to try and stop people getting around the croc laws. Also, under current regulations they would never allow a 1 metre croc to be kept in a(6 ft tank) enclosure so small.

When we spoke to Gavin at the expo he told us they planned to sell them around $1000 to $1200 ea . Must be heavy inflation up in the NT.

yeah I have just spent more than an hour on the phone with the guy from the department.

The minimum number of exhibits should be ok, cause we really do want to do the exhibits, and I think it's about once a month (which shouldn't interfere with both working full time, the degree and the diploma that I am doing... why do I do it to myself?).

I was concerned about that tank size, didn't seem very realistic to me.

Would anyone have pics? I am also interested in what sort of requirements they have, feeding etc.

dont see anything wrong with that price, not to many people willing to buy a croc and he has to make a profit somehow

they are wild caught as well arent they? i think he is mainly after the $$$$$

Tommo, I think you missed the point. He quoted $1000 to $1200 each which was a tad expensive, but they are unique so he is justified. However 6 weeks later and we now have a 250% price rise. $2500ea Which is a tad above the quoted prise he told everyone at the expo.

would you have gotten one at the original price quoted bob?

Ricko, yes I was planning on a few as were a couple of other exhibitors here in NSW. But not at $2500.

yeah its a tad high lol, have you got a croc you display at the moment?

strange how afew pygmy herps have been discovered latly around the NT, mulgas and crocs

yep :D

seen them myself, they look like 1m long, anorexic mulgas. ive seen some of these, was very weird to see a newly discovered species

Thought Id put this and others in the expo gallery, but I couldnt find them. This is the only one I could find among my disc. Cheers

Sorry guys, i dont know how to say it but come on. A pygmy croc, it looks like a freshy that needs to dine on something other than crickets. Next minute you will tell me that it lives in cold water and eats only once a fortnight. ( I am not trying to offend anyone but it might be to late for that.) Happy New Year to all.

Actually it feeds on wood roaches and the like and it is only found in hot springs of at least 40dgerees celcius.

i luv the pygmy crocs, they're so cute...as babies! but I'd hav to agree with Instar also, cos I'm pretty sure i heard u gotta exhibit them once a month, and a 6ft enclosure would b uncomfy for one....prob 'round a 10ft enclosure i would think would keep it happy as an adult...they rarel grow over 1m...Yeah, the prices are quite high, but they'd hav 2 be a great addition to any herp collection! :D Go the little croccies!!!
