Does anyone have any info on these guys or if they even exsist as I have heard about them but never seen pics or seen them for sale.

Are they salties or freshies as I've heard conflicting info. Also how big do they get and are they available on the captive market? Any other info would be great.

They go great with penny turtles ;)

Hahah I thought that may have been the case, but I have heard off some reputable people that know people with them, or apparently so. More then likely just stunted individuals then.

I heard they were freshies that had evolved to live in small pools due to their normal water system mostly drying up. There is a keeper in Melbourne who keeps small freshies outside (obviously with modifications for heat), I guess their growth may be affected by temps, food quantity and enclosure size?

Someone got a permit to collect them, they are apparently a pygmy race of freshies but you have to pay $6000 (from memory) for the priveledge of finding out whether they really are or not.

mmm yes, what a easy way to get a collection permit, you know, before the toads wipe them out ect. They seem to have gone a bit quite since hitting the market a few years back, a bit strange I think, with the amount of hair splitting going on in the taxonomical world over at present.

Gavin Bedford at Bullo had them, if I remember correctly. Maximum size was meant to be 1 metre, or thereabouts.

:p

they had a display at the sydney reptile how in darling harbour a few years ago. they had a few animals in a tank that were total length about 600mm and they said they were about 8 years old. they had a petition going about keeping them in nsw from memory. i think they were comparing them to people keeping dangerous dogs!!! anyway they were from bullo station - try to google bullo river station and ring them as there is no info about them on the web site (just very expensive holidays). Graeme wWbbs book just defines them as stunted specimans due to the fluctuating river levels or something from memory- its been a while since i read it.
