Pygmy Dragon

I have a Pygmy Dragon hatchie , ive noticed when walking on the sand it sometimes walks on its wrist ( front legs only) and seems a bit lazy when walking , i feed it plenty of calcium powder with D3 on crickets (every day) , does a forum member have any sugestions???

Its a 4ft fish tank , i have divided it into 3 equal parts , i have the original fluro light housing with a 10.0 uva / uvb bulb in it , i also put the dragons in a wire fronted box in the sun every couple on days for a hr or so when time permits.

hmmm.. how old is it? and how long have you had it?

Ive had them for 5wks , they are aprox 6wks old. Ive got 2 ,the 1 with the prob is the smallest .

are they housed togerther? do you think that they are eating the same amount of food? is it possible that the bigger one in dominating?

They are together , i always watch when im feeding (crickets), the bigger does eat a little more but not much , ive tried vegies, they eat a little sometimes. They've shed their skin 3 times since ive got them so they are definately growing.

try feeding veges before offering insects. but i don't think you are doing too much wrong... unless they are both male i can't forsee them stressing too much and because it is still eating. try calling the seller and seeing if any other siblings are suffering from the same disorder... do you keep them on just a paper or tile subtraight? i have seen some wrist and ankle problems in lizards when they have no topography in their enclosures.do they have things to climb so they strengthen their 'wrists'?

No probs with others that i know of , ive got them on sand with a rock and a piece of wood about 150mm high , i was reading that calcium powder with D3 is no good if used too regulary as the D3 can be toxic in high usage, this is what ive been doing so im not sure if this is related or not. Im going to buy some Calcium Carbonate tomorrow. I did witness the 1 with the prob head bobbing this morning after being feed so i dont think its stress , it does seem to be more that its having trouble walking on all fours.

well i do only use calsium and have about 3 times a month... sounds like you are doing all good things... what are your temps like?

Ive got a lazer temp gauge , the book ive got is American so ive switched over to make it easyer , 90 -100, i'll have to convert it.

looks pretty good, but how do you atchieve a gradient with the heat in the middle like that? i can't say i know how that would relate to being limp wristed tho..

At the moment because its quite hot here i only have the basking lights on for 2 times day -morning and night for about a hr or so. I also put them outside in the sun sometimes in the afternoon.

Is it possible that the larger one has bit the smaller ones wrist.

I thought that but i just doesnt walk properly but i think its coming good slowly.

thermal gradient refers to the animal having access to lower/ higher temperatures... so if it is hot, it can move to a place where it can cool down. it doesn't mean that you make the enclosure/environment different temps at different times. while i suggest that you rectify this situation i can't personally say if this has affected your lizards wrists.

At moment the temp is 30% with no basking lights on , when it cools down in the house i turn on the lights , they usually sit under the lights to warm up then move to the top of the logs ( a lot cooler ) when they are warm enough .

i fail too see from your pics how on top of the logs could be 'alot cooler' but maybe i'm missing something. i hope your pygmy gets better good luck.
