Hey guys,

I have a 5 year old coastal carpet and he burned himself on his lamp (long story). I took him to the vet and was given a month long course of antibiotics for him and some chlorhexedine to wash his wound in. Long story short, he's recovering very well after only 3 injections and just shed for the first time since, and where his burn was is now a lot of healthy looking pink skin but no scales.

I'm just wondering if his scales will grow back eventually or if he'll be like this for good! It wasn't a deep burn but there's definitely about 3cm long/1cm wide worth of healthy looking pink skin.

Thanks :)

Typically, scales dont regenerate. However in most cases the surrounding scales can change shape over time (sometimes fusing together) and grow inwards, in an attempt to cover open wounds, but this can take years.

Overall, the exposed skin will always be there, but will harden up and probably become darker aswell.

Thanks :) It's a bit of a shame cos he's a beautiful snake otherwise!

Here's a rather poor pic of him eating for the first time today since he hurt himself (you can't see the burn): http://tinyurl.com/fafnir :)

How much did the reptile vet bills set u back? i have always wondered if they are expensive like dogs etc
