I hope this isnt a stupid newbie question....

I am thinking it may be time to upgrade the size of feeds for my girl. She is 9 weeks old and i have been feeding her pinkie mice every 7 days.

I have given her 3 feeds myself. The first 2 she really had to work at to get her mouth around it and once it was down I could clearly see that she had eaten, but this last time (on Tuesday) it was down in no time at all and i could barely even see it in her.

I tried to get pics but as soon as it was down she was straight into her her hide.

So basically I am pretty sure its time for an upsize but not sure which is the best next step. The fuzzie mice and pinkie rats look to be similar in size. I have been told that rats are better food than mice but that the transition can be difficult. I have also been told that it is better to feed a fuzzie than a pinkie. Its a case of too much info getting me confused. Some clarification would be much appreciated.

1. sounds like you can upsize,
2. fuzzy mice will be better than pinkie rats because pinkies have no real nutrition, just skin and cartelige (sp?). They need hair, bones, teeth and claws to give them all the good stuff :)

Definitely try to get her onto rats.

Once the transition is made you have a lot more scope for upgrading food size. Im pretty new to all of this but have been told by many more experienced keepers that snakes that are on mice for a long time can be more difficult to change over.

Thanks! First 2 reply posts just proves my point lol!

haha, there's no definite right or wrong- just personal opinions backed up with contradictory evidence :D

Thanks yeah i was thinking the change over would be easier the sooner it was done. Also i still have a few pinkie mice left so if i need to i can use them to scent the rats although fingers crossed i wont need to.... she has been pretty low maintenance up til now!
