Was watching a show on the weekend that has a name that rhymes with SnakeMusters (changed the name for legal reasons that have been discussed on this forum) They made some referals to longevity of snakes lives and it got me thinking.

How long has anybody personally kept a snake in their own collection. Is there anybody on this forum who has a long-lived snake, and what is it.

Good question, can some of the more experienced herpers please shed some light onto their oldest herp and what species it was.

Regards Alex

Not a snake, but, a lady i bought a herp off had a great outdoor pit, and in it was a pond with turtles too. One of the bigger turts had been given to a friend of theirs for his 10th birthday, this year the guy turned 50 and gave the turtle to the lady with the pond cause he could no longer care for it. So that turtle is 40 years old and still going strong!!

Ive also heard stories of people having to leave their pet turtles to relo's in their wills cause the turtles have outlived the owners!!

Well, Jonny, Greg, Hugsta and I have it on good authority that snakes live upto 100yrs old!

I have never had one

What a deprived life you have led ;-)

I am guessing you encounter them from time to time in your line of work 8)

So does the department have any policy on you keeping reptiles?

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Question on Longevity in Pet Snakes

i believe the giant carpet caught some time back which was an intergrade was estimated at around 50 years old.I had a pic of it somewhere but can't seem to find it.It's head was absolutely massive!!!
I know the age is a bit of an educated guess but if you see the size of this animal, mainly the head i think many would tend to agree...

Does anyone have that pic?If so could someone please post it?
