Hi im just curious on wether or not king and corn snakes are illegal as pets in australia?? I have spoken to a few people and both suggested the snakes as a good first time snake to take on. Can u not get them in australia?? thx

I would love a corn snake. But yes unfortunately there illegal.

They are illegal, but they are fairly common.
I would suggest a Spotted Python or a Childrens Python as a good first snake. A Bredli could also be considered...

Both are illegal, and you can cop a whoppa fine for having one in aus, in aus the usual first snakes are Childrens, Stimsons and Spotted Pythons.

if they are illeagl in aus why are they so easy to find (by find i mean people selling them)

If it isn't a native Australian Snake it is illegal.

Agree with Bedli_lover's comment.

Because people smuggled them to Aus, bred them, sold them to people who didn't know they were illigal and so the cycle continues... :|

I presume...

You're right partially, but some get lost from institutions that are allowed to keep them, I have personally seen 2 cute little rosy boas in Sydney that were taken out the back door from one place that legally bred them. Was in 1986 so what else was given away or sold and subsequently bred?

bit harsh....i think exotic snakes are gorgeous and would love one. i love aussie snakes too but.
maloo: they are illegal, and depending what state your in even some of the australian snakes you can't keep.
