Rat $$ by weight

One of the pet shops asked me to supply different size rats but the price to be based on weight rather than your standard sizes. Basically their idea is 1 x 500 gram rat and a snap lok bag with 500 grams of weaners in it would be the same price.
Seems a reasonable request to me, so anyone worked out an average price per gram?

:lol: Like how many ratpups would be needed to make up for the weight of a medium rat.Like a rat pup is normally about 1$ and i presumed they were that price cause they have to kill one that could of been raised up.Where are ya rodent rancher when ya needed. :twisted: :twisted:

I'm here. LOL! We don't weigh our pinks and velvets. The weaners are 45gr plus. All of these are in bags of 10. A medium rat would weigh between 125 or 130 grams up to 150 grams. Hang on I'll get the scales and weigh 10 pinks ok?

Ok, I've only got 6 pink rats in the freezer at the moment(they are for "Emdee") There three large pinks and they all weighed 10 grams each, and the 3 small pinks weighed 5 grams each. The large pinks would be approx 2 inches long, and the small ones would be approx 1 1/4 inches long. Cheers Cheryl

So assuming that bag is around 450 grams, you would charge how much?

Sorry Nuthin, should have said the weaners are between 40gr to 50gr, so say the average bag weight is 450grams, you can't really charge the same price for the weaners as you would for say a Jumbo weighing 500grams? Our bags of 10 weaners cost $13.80, and a 500grammer is $5.30, no gst there though either. I'm sure the pet shops would scream if you charged $13.80 for a Jumbo eh? Anyway wait till Dave comes home from his Cod fishing, and I'll ask him to do a costing for you ok? I'm hopeless at that sort of stuff. :lol: Cheers Cheryl
