My parents in Arizona forwarded these photos. They were reportedly taken near Tucson in early May this year. No guarantees on that, but an impressive concentration of snakes!

I wonder if they gathered in a group like that for mating purposes.I know Garter snakes get together in the hundreds for mating etc.

I love Tucson, we found and got to play with quite a few Buzztails last time I was there. Never in that concentration though. Would have loved to have found them like that. Great photos.
They're not C. atrox (which is all we found) possibly C.cutulatus.

Id love to have a rattler or two maybe if they wernt exotic and they didnt have venom!

They are obviously hibernation den if natural pic, and probably coming out at spring. Rattle snakes are known to hibernate in large groups and sometimes different species. Wonder what they are? Elpaid68 i think they might well be Mojave as you said, or maybe red diamondbacks?

Very nice pics. They appear to be C. viridis as they dont have the black and white banding on the tail that appears on C. atrox, C. ruber or C. scutulatus.
All the Best
