Someone shared this and I just can't get my head around a snake being this big. Is it real or photoshopped?

It is how the picture is taken. If a fisherman holds the fish out in front of him it look bigger than if it is beside him. Still a large snake.

Forced perspective, just a simple camera trick. The bucket of the excavator that's holding the snake is far closer to the camera than the cabin where the people are, so it makes the snake look like it's 15+m when it's probably much less than 10m. It's a big snake, but not THAT big!

I'd hazzard a guess at that snake probably being around the 18-20ft mark.

Reticulated python, longest snake known to live although not the most heavy bodied snake which is the green anaconda. I have no doubts on this being real as there is one in captivity 24ft and eats live goats.

Not really a doubt in my mind looking at this picture.

Cheers, Bohdi.

Well they aren't 'live' for long...

There's a Retic in Indonesia somewhere that is supposedly 48 feet long, around 1000lb, and is fed 3-4 dogs a month. But as for how true it is. Who knows.

It eats "live" goats?

Yes it eats live goats mate. I added live in there for some strange reason, probably because most herpers are surprised to hear live feeding as it is typically frowned upon.

Or we're you referring to me saying 'live' over 'alive'

Cheers,Bohdi.

Should be doubt in your mind looking at that picture. If that guy is 6ft tall, that snake is 50ft+, much bigger than 24ft.

The snake is big, but not as big as it looks.

This one has been posted many times. It's all in the angle of the dangle.

the bucket on a machine of that size is about 900mm wide so yes it is big but not that big

As said by a few people now that snake is not 50ft+. I don't understand you in referring to that guy (roughly 6ft tall) as a size indicator. That guy is a fair few meters back decreasing him in size visually, if you understand what I am saying if he were to be right up next to the snake I think you could only fit 5-6 of him height wise into the snake not 8-9 times as you are implying.

I thought I would add in a large sized Reticulated python that I know of in captivity, I was clearly not implying that this snake was estimated to be the same length as the one I was talking about. There are freaks of nature and that's one for you.

Cheers, Bohdi.

It seemed like in your first reply to the thread you were implying that you have no doubt that the snake is as big as it looks... which is why I gave that 6ft example, if you brang the guy forward like you said, it would look much smaller.

The way you worded your first post is confusing. You say twice you have no doubt in your mind that it's real, I assumed that you meant that it's as big as it looks.

No he just meant in regard to my first post 'was it real or photoshopped'... it is a REAL snake on an excavator bucket and not an image of a snake doctored into the picture. It is simply a case of real life manipulated by photographic angle.

definetly not as big as it looks, it would take a fair bit of time and research to get a decent and accurate measurement from that picture.

the two biggest snakes in captivity are both in Java
the one that is supposed to be 40ft is actually 21.9in
it is fed 3 dogs every 3 months as its on a diet
it is on public display at a small village
retic called fragrant flower

second is not on public display
same length
but much thinner/healthier looking

You will hear about twinkle etc etc
Hear about Huge USA snakes
But not one of them has yet reached 21ft

Have seen a dead Sumatran retic estimated 24ft
But never officially measured

2 monsters were caught in Borneo about 2 years ago
Both subsequently died, one from injuries
other one probably from parasites and stress
Both were in very poor condition
One of those was over 24ft

I have seen shed belly skin that putting it bluntly was scary big
That was in North Central Borneo Mountain area called Heart Of Borneo
But monsters like that may only hunt once a year
They are past breeding age and just hole up somewhere safe until hungry
So seeing one is not easy
Dyaks up there are both terrified of the big ones and at same time revere them
and give them names
