Hi,

I have bought my first incubator! Yay! but no instructions, i have filled the bottom tray with water, placed the mesh over the top, and created my egg boxes with 1:1 vermiculite and water. so next is the temp? i am in cairns, and its hot! i had read that you should put it somewhere where it doesn't get to more then 28deg. well i think everywhere up here is higher then that, i thought about putting it somewhere with a fan on it to keep it a little cooler would this be ok? also shoul i set the temp at 28deg or 30deg? Any help appreciated!!

Thanks all

Hi Kristy,
Yeah, reptapet are a bit vague aren't they :)
I have one of their incubators and it is serving me well atm. I am in Brisbane and it is maintaining the temp very well, however it is getting to 30 degrees some days without the heater on.
There are no ventilation holes in the incubator itself so I don't think putting it near a fan is going to make a difference - but at air conditioned room perhaps?
If you are planning to incubate beardie eggs, then I would set it at 28 degrees. In your situation the incubator will heat up a little more than that, but at least it won't be allowed to drop lower than needed, if you know what I mean?
I know that Lucky Reptile has an incubator (or "hatchery") that has a cooling device as well for times when it gets too hot. I think that they are linked with Dalbarb.
