I have horses, therfore live on acrege, and there is about 32 acres of bush on a friends property next door that I am allowed to ride in. I dont know when but the bush will be cut down and houses will be built there. And I am worried about all the reptiles and animals that will lose there homes, get injured or get sick from any fumes that will be made from the building sites. CC said maybe if I ring NWPs they might give me permission to collect the reptiles and put them into captivity, because if they try and cross any roads near the bush they will be killed as they are all main.....What do you think? Do you think they'll let me?

I don't think they will let you keep them. NPWS may allow you to collect them and relocate them to a more unpopulated area but you would have to a place picked out be ready to take them there and plenty of good reasons to do so or they wouldn't give permission.
NPWS are there to protect wild animals thats part of the reason we have licsenes to keep people from taking reptiles out of the wild.

If you come across any that are obviously stranded with no where to go you'd be best off ringing wires or any other wildlife service that deals with reptiles. This way they will get any treatment needed, be relocated to a suitable environment and it'll also keep NPWS off your door step.

I did also mention how illegal this was....
My suggestion was an "ALL YOU COULD DO IS,AND HOPE FOR THE BEST" because you were keen to collect them for conservational reasons you said.NPWS would have wires experienced reptile relocators to rescue them if in danger and so it is not really a posibility for you to collect them.Howevr my advice was to try anything including that approach if you were dead set on the idea and see what comes of it (I didnt want to sound discouraging especially after the other days arguments etc).I wasn't giving advice in regards to what I believe or what I think of wild caught but merely giving you food for thought concerning the topic you raised.

I didn't want to keep them myself....I dont like putting an animal that has been able to go any where it wants into an enclosured, small area.....I was probably either going to take them to wires anyway,( didn't like the idea of relocating them since I'm too in-experienced) because they could have internal injuries or an on coming ill-ness.....I was just wanting to help out the animals, not put them in misery for the rest of there life. :)

P.S CC, I didn't think your post was discouraging, and I thankyou for giving me that idea to help out :)

P.P.S IM GETTING MY HATCHLIE TOMORROW!!!! YAY! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Hey, I think it;s a great thing that you are doing- if they go back into the wild though, you might get more support from NPWS if you get support of a highly experoenced herper, they're concedn maybe that you might accidently injure an animal or even get bitten by a species of elapid....So if you have a pro herp on your side may help........
Cheers
