My 18 mnth old Darwin has been very restless of late....At night he has been prowling his entire enclosure and appears to be sniffing or smelling as if loking for something. He is probably not too far off a shed....I offered him some food and while he had a sniff he was not interested.

There has been some cold mornings of late (cold for Darwin 19deg). His cage is on top of my female Darwins cage (also 18 mnths)

Is it possible he is looking for the female???

Uh oh sounds like you have a randy boy on your hands Guzzo! Seems as though a lot of pythons are into it earlier this year.

I was kind of hoping that was all it is........if that is the case do they usually go off their food for while during this time?

Yeah down where I live they don't eat from now till about September but it gets colder there obviously

Sounds like he is ready for the breeding season. A four month fast will be good for him. I was surprised at how active mine were during the 'cooling' period. It's good fun to watch them prowl around. If you are going to introduce him to the female, make sure they are both rather empty. Courtship is often accompanied by emptying of the cloaca, so you want it to be pretty empty to start with or else things get ugly (and smellier than usual).

Haha ....yuck!!! Thanks for the heads up

This is only my opinion but I think 18 months is a bit young for the female
The male looks like a very healthy 18 month old
But I personally think breeding them too young cannot be good for the females long term health
Bit like a 10yr old girl having a baby
Its physically possible but is it good for her health?

Hey Guzzo, could also be the change of season.
I thought my BHP was going into shed a little early, just different behaviour ect.
Not out as often, flexing his head in a different manner and not that interested in
coming out of his enclosure. I am wondering if it is not only the sudden change of season but also the change in smells.
The fires have started so surely this would have an impact on what they can sense?
