who uses washed river sand and what are the pros and cons?

im using it for a bearded dragon atm but considering using it for pythons as its cheap and easy to get and i think it will look better then newspaper

i use it with large river pebbles as a theme:)

Does it bother your beardies digetstion at all being on sand,or can you just see it in his poops when he goes?

Watch out for using it with pythons, I've always been told, and also continued to warn people; The sand grains can get between and under scales, causing definite irritation and sometimes eventually causing an infection. Also, it can get into the heat sensing pits on the bottom jaw of the python, slowly causing infection.

I have been told this, many times, by many people, not experienced this, but i definitely do not want to risk it. A good thing for pythons is Kritters krumble, looks awesome, and a lot cheaper then other things on the market.

As for your beardie, brickies sand is cheap, similar colour i believe. I got a 50litre bag for $5 from my local Landscaping place.

Just curious has anyone first hand had impaction from sand?? I hear it bantered around but not anyone saying they have had it. Also I had a Stimmie on sand for the best part of 4yrs and no probs.

Brickies sand is ment to contain something thats not good for them...but can't remember at this time what..something about the silicon?

I use childrens play sand for my beardies.

As for pythons, BHP's and Womas are ment to bury themselves in sand in the wild.
You could try it but if iritation occurs or and difficulty shedding then would be best to remove it.

Sand is too cold for most snakes - anywhere away from the heat source will get very cold in winter. That's only one of several reasons why it's not popular or recommended...

Yes I have had it with a beardy, got it in time to put him in warm water and defacated almost pure sand.
