Iguanas are herbivores; feed them Romaine lettuce, not celery or other vegetables. Green, orange or yellow-colored vegetables are the most nutritious for the creatures. They eat whole vegetables in the wild but do not feed them pureed vegetables.

That's really bad advice. Lettuce, romain or not, has no nutritional value to Iguanas. Cerly is actually good for them.

We kept a pair of green iguanas while living in Canada. Ours were fed all manner of vegies and iguana pellets. Vegies were dusted in calcium. They were also provided UV and a basking spot.

To my mind they are less than ideal pets. They have razor blades for claws (I still bare the scars) and a very mean attitude while in season... which seems to be most of the time. They head bob which is about as cute as they get. Ours were housed in a glass fronted and backed enclosure 2 meters high, 1 meter wide and about 500 mm deep. The glass seemed to be always covered in blood and guk. The male offered his cheeks up for the female to bite and bite she did. These are not pets for the squeemish. Give me a beardie or the worst tempered goanna any day.

Any one tempted to keep a Green Iguana in oz should consider having their head read. They get big, mean and ugly! (Ignoring the fact that they cannot legally be kept here.)

And then dumped.

Our pair, that had been named Plato and Flower (not by me), where taken on by a family that had a child with allergy problems. They were looking for some pets that did not have fur.

Dumped iguanas in Winnipeg would not last too long with the winter temperatures getting as low as -40

My son who was then with security at a local shopping center did recover a few that were dumped there and managed to find good homes for them.
