Hi Got a little roughie about 2 weeks ago... Her records show she last ate 8th feb ... She is 2 months old... Her temps have been fine sitting at 34 degrees at the hot end ... Tried feeding her last night a fuzzy mouse but refused and didnt look like even striking.. ive never had a python thats been hard to get eating!... should i be getting worried? If any more info needed ill let you know... Any Help would be greatly appreciated...

Have you contacted the breeder?

Are you handling it?
Are you sure it's taking mice and not rats or quail or something?
More details on the set up please....

Not handling at all the only time was too move her from a 3 foot melamine enclosure to a 1foot glass enclosure about 2 days after i got her because i though it would be too much room for her! so setup has about an inch of natural recycled paper kitty littler (nothing hamful whatsoever) a few branches for her to climb. a little Exo-Terra rock home about 15 cms.. and a water dish. On the underside of the glass propably covering 25% of the bottom is a heat cord attached to a thermostat set at 34 degrees.

Try: Leaving the mice in enclosure for an hour in a cool spot. (poke a hole or two in it)
Make sure there is nothing else in the room to scare it, eg. other animals or people.
Or maybe source different batch of mice (fresh ones)

Definitely tong feed, do not use you hand. (bad habits..)

Maybe move it out of the glass enclosure into a click clack, or cover up the glass, then try again in a few days, fresh mouse, open the lid a tiny bit and use tongs.
Check your floor temps as gozz said, thermos are not always accurate, and give it a hide in each end.

Hi Last night i tried leaving the mouse in the enclosure and woke up and there was a mouse still there... Im at work now but when i get home ill check what the substrate temp is and see if its different to what the themos says!!! Would it be worth trying to get a live pinkie or velvet mouse?? (i dont really wanna do this option but i will try anything)

Hey yeh i have covered the tank in a clean shirt around the edges but i might try covering it with newspaper so i know there are no gaps!

You shouldn't rely on the thermostat's set temp to be accurate.
Always have a 2nd thermometer in there to get actual temps.
To me it sounds like the temps aren't right for him.

Also maybe try braining a pinky and see if that gets him going.

u need heat at the top aswell as the bottom, shes prob too cold. get a basking light for her to sit under. i had that recycled newspaper stuff, its horrible. makes dust and insulates the heat. go the fake grass.

Your best bet would be to get in touch with the breeder, after all he would know the animal better than anyone else.Did you ask him how he had it set up and if so have you made your set up the same?
