I just watched a little bearded dragon run across the highway. I saw him at the side of the road so I pulled over, expecting the worse. I didn't get out of the car because I knew it would scare him onto the road but that is where he went anyway. There was miles of traffic behind me and going the other way. This little dragon ran straight into the path of a truck, yet when the truck passed, instead of finding a squashed lizard I spotted him just running off the road, on the other side. I was grimacing when I saw him run under the truck, but couldn't believe it that he made it, and disappeared into the long grass. I already had a galah in my jacket that had been hit on the road, along the highway. Oncoming traffic wasn't impressed with my rescue and tootted their horn at me but I didn't care. Just because they had the heart to drive over the top of him and keep going doesn't mean I did. I gave him to FAWNA to take care of. He didn't look too bad, but his legs wouldn't work for him. Wings escaped damage which is a good sign. When I went kayaking I also saved a moth and a bee from drowning in the river. Both aired their wings out and flew away.
