And a bit more:
SCALE ROT

Symptoms

§ Discolored
ventral scales, usually red, brown, or pink

§ Chipped ventral
scales

Causes

§ Internal
infection that works its way to the outside skin (caused by

dried excrements left in the cage)

Solution

The best treatment for Scale Rot is to use an
antibiotic cream such as

Neosporin on the affected area. In addition, make
sure the snake’s cage is

clean and sanitized. Keep in mind that you will
probably not see much

change until the snake sheds its skin. This type of
irritation will naturally start

the shedding cycle most of the time.

After cleaning your snake’s cage, we recommend you
leave out the

bedding material while applying the antibiotic cream
twice daily. If you notice

redness spreading or the infection becoming worse,
the infection could be

septic or in the blood, at which time it could spread
quickly to vital organs,

killing the snake. Therefore, the veterinarian would
need to administer

serious antibiotics to stop the infection.

Scale rot is also caused when a snake is unable to shed its skin which adheses the old skin onto their new clothes and nothing is done about it. Each time a shed cycle comes round, the same thing happens. In this case, scale rot can actually be completely invisible because it is hiding underneath multiple layers of skins. So to prevent this happening, keep your husbandry standards up to scratch and be sure your snake does shed its skin, and all of it. Small amounts of retained skin left on them isn't usually a problem. Quite often it will come off next time round, but when snakes are kept too dry, too hot, too cold, this can, will and does cause issues with their shedding which in longterm will lead to scale rot.
