Dont take them off her back, let them disperse. I used to put a heap of leaves and bark in for the 2nd instars to hide in or they may become the females first meal. Theyll darken as the cuticle hardens, time frame would vary dependant on conditions. I used to move my T spiderlings around with a spoon or by scooping up the scorp plus some substrate in my hand.
It all depends
I have 1st instar bubs who have already started to wander away from mummy but they do return to her... so shall be seperating them after 2nd instar when they're exoskeleton has hardened (typically at the 2nd instar stage - which is when they begin to darken) and they fail to return to her. It's important not to take them away too soon. As Jordan suggested, bark in the enc. helps for those bubs to hide and a spoon works wonders
oh really...i'll take a lil trip then..and 1 utha question ive noticed that mum and the children have been hiding away in the burrow for about 15 days after the babies first molt and mum seems to be reacting very slowly, is this normal after birth? and mum hasnt been eating either
G'day Tennille
Have you had the 1st instars shed once theyve left the females back? Ive seen the 1st instars dropped by a few species and it always ended with dead or eaten young.
