A few days ago, a very good friend of mine and I went through a gorgeous canyon which we know as Serendipity (It's actual name is long and awkward).

Just thought I would share a few pics, I have to say though, my compact camera can in no way capture a fraction of the beauty that is within the canyon. So many times I had to just stop with my jaw dropped and just looking at how spectacular my surroundings were...

going down the second abseil

My mate going through the one of the swims, it was the coldest water I have ever felt!

Yeah definitely beats sitting at home doing nothing!! It was mad! I have to say I am not the biggest fan of heights but I climb a couple of times a week usually so kinda used to it now. They were pretty tricky abseils but when you know there is no way of getting out without doing them you tend to toughen up and just get on with it :) The 30m swim through ice cold water was the worst but still totally worth it!

Amazing stuff. You did well to capture what you did on film. I had some mate at uni that were into bushwalking and canyoning and they took me down Claustral Canyon. It was a 40[SUP]o[/SUP]C day and the bottom of the canyon and the water was like ice. So I know what you mean. The first abseil is only about 3 metres but I can remember my mate saying this is the point of no return – the only way out is forward. Abseiling down a series of waterfalls into a dark abyss is an experience all on its own. It is very much a hidden world. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some great memories. It is an adventure you will never forget.

I love that second water dragon. A big handsome male – an awsome lizard.

Why don't we do it in the road canyon always sounds silly compared to serendipity canyon:)

yep that's the one... it's so awkward I can't even remember the damn thing! Serendipity suits it more!

The only other canyon I have done is Empress Canyon which is also in the mountains, I did that in a spring suit and it was pretty cold but nothing compared to Serendipity in a steamer... my poor mate, he only had thermals under a spring suit!

Would have been nice to take a really good camera down but I took my adventure cam... that thing has been hundreds of metres underground, thousands of feet above ground, through oceans and canyons and up the side of cliffs... just a shame the pics don't always turn out that great. Better than nothing I guess :)

The Why Don't We Do It In the Road canyon? That's its other name?

You're right. It sounds ridiculous.

A white water rafting guide I used to work with on the Tully claimed to be responsible for the finding of the Wollemi Pines. He got to a canyon before the eventual discoverer and the bloke had to try a new spot. Bingo! Wollemi Pines!

Great pics and great fun! There are a million unexplored canyons and sinkholes in Arnhem Land that will yield some incredible things when people eventually get into them!

Thanks for sharing!
