Does anyone know where to get silkworms? will they breed year round inside and are mulberry evergreens?

Hi Instar,
Any petshop who deals thru Pisces for their water plants and live food can supply them. The silkworms are only available around spring (from what I can remember). Mulbery leaves are deff not evergreen.

silk worms are easy to keep we used to keep them in egg cartons when they were about to spin cocoons. and in a plastic tub when they were 'worms'.

ours from memory used to breed all the time all yr round but i was only a little tacker and its been a whiles.

Could anyone give me some breeding info on these, A mate I got some off told me to put the eggs into the fridge over winter (while the mulberry tree has no leaves, then bring them out in the spring when it gets its leaves back) only problem is after I get them out of the fridge, leave them a few weeks at room temp, they dont hatch. Am I doing something wrong? Could the fridge be too cold?

The fridge is fine, but make a litlle incubator for the eggs. Hatch them out at 27C and you'll have near on 100% of the grey eggs hatch. Put a small mulberry leaf into the container with the eggs (I use an airtight plastic container) after about 4 days from when you took them out of the fridge. after about 7 days you'll start to see the babies and boy do they grow fast. They'll be moths within 4 weeks if well fed.
