hey guys, i need alot of sliding glass tracks for my new tanks, i went to bunnings and they sold 2x 180mm rails for $21.80  , which i thought was a bit extreme for a bit of plastic, just wondering if theres a wholesaler or a cheaper place around of which people have used before. ummm i think it needs to be 5mmx2.

thanks :p

Call Ultimate Reptile Supplies, they sell it but only in 6mm and you can still use 5mm glass in it.

I got six meters top and bottom sent to me (sydney) to the door for about $45 bucks.

Thats pretty cheap Lamu, I paid that at my bunnings when I built my bank .That was 4mm

That is indeed cheap, as Inny said, and the bunnings tracks are good quality too. There are cheaper ones around if you look but they are thinner plastic and IMO not half as good. Where hardware is concerned you get what you pay for I reckon.

I bought mine from a glass repairs/supply shop, it came in a pack with 3 rails about 1.8m long to suit 6mm glass. 2 rails were about 5mm deep and 1 rail was 10mm deep, the 10mm deep obviously goes across the top so you can lift the glass in and then drop it into the bottom 5mm and it stays in place, cost about $20 bucks per pack. I have heaps of 10mm left over though. which ill probably use for the sides of the next set of enclosures.

I paid $12.50 for a set 1.2m long at my local Glass supplier. Just last week.

By the way is there any tricks that I should know when fitting the tracks. It looks pritty straight forward, but if anyony has any tips I would love to here them before I fit them hopfully this weekend

Cheers

Wood glue and a few tacks hammered in along the tracks will do no worries.

Just make sure, then double check, that the deeper tracking is on the top!!!!

Marley plastics make the tracking that you are talking about. I bought mine directly of them but I had to buy (from memory) about 50 tracks. It worked out very reasonable per metre.

I get mine for $5 per metre from a glass and joinery place.

The best place to buy it is at your local glass guy, they can do custom length not just the standard 1200. Ring around and ask them, they are everywhere!

Cheers Alex
