Hi all,

I am getting my first pair of Smooth Knobtails and have read a couple of books in keeping them and have spoken to a few people as well. I live in Cairns so heating does not seam to be a problem (although I will have to keep an eye on max temps of no more than 32 degrees lower temps should not be an issue with keeping) however!

I have read that they like their area moist and humid but whats a good humidity level to keep them at? At the moment one end of the tank (the end with their house and moisture) sits at around 80-85% while the other end is around 60-65%. This will fluctuate during our tropical summer and reduce during our winters of course, but I want to know what is a good medium and how is best to decrease humidity levels if required?

They are not in the tank yet as they have not arived, but the enclosure is set up and was testing the enviroment before we get them and give them there new home.

Cheers

Grab a copy of Reptiles Australia, Levis04 on here has put together a very informative article going through how he keeps/kept his collection.

In the mean time I do not believe that there is a particular humidity level and from what I have been told by Ryan, misting every 2-3 days will be adequate.

Thanks for that Dixilizards, I have looked into it a bit more myself and their doesnt seam to be any issues with high humidity effecting their health. I will indeed grab a copy of that mag from my new agents. If anyone else has anything further to add feel free as the more I know the better armed I will be to tackle anything if it happens.

Am pretty sure that the article by Ryan is in the latest 'Scales & Tails Australia' magazine, not 'Reptiles Australia'......:)
If you cannot locate a copy at your newsagent, contact Joy from
S & T on here and she may be able to find one for you.
There is also a neat little book called 'Keeping Australian Geckos' - written by Rob Porter :D
It's got heaps of good info. I got mine at a pet shop.
Cheers and good luck, they are lovely little critters
