After reading the short article, in the sidebar on the right, click the link to show you the stills taken from the news video. 17 stills in all. The snake was only a little one, looks like a hatchy or maybe a yearling (not sure with water moccasins) but his finger joint is badly swollen. At least he's got a smile on his face.

i can vouch for it hurting on the finger joints, i got tagged there a couple of days ago by a 4yo murray darling and althought the teeth marks and even the bruising is gone down, the joint is still swollen and stiff, i can't imagine it with vemon included too.

water moccasins, or cottonmouths, are a highly venomous pit viper that average around 3-4ft (90-120cm) in length with a max of ft (2m), so judging by the pics, I'm guessing this little guy was a juvie...but wat a bite for a juvie, very dangerous little snake!!! :-(

has anyone heard of Tiger snakes being found around central Queensland,(rockhampton and Biloela area). Apparently a lady was bitten by one 2 days ago and was administered tiger snake antivenine and released the same day.It was determind a tiger snake after a saliver swab of the bite area.Is it possible it was a BHP!

I think the hospital would know if there was venom present, I dont see how they would administer antivenom if they thought it was a dry bite or a python bite.

We have seen docos that have stated that when a saliver swob is taken from a BHP bite, it will come up the same as if a tiger snake had done. And i might just piont out that there are alot of people who have no idea what a snake bit looks like, python or venomous. I think that most hospitals play it safe and believe that it could be the venomous snake even if they think it doesnt look right( if they know what it is supposed to look like) The documentary said that many people have died from BHP bits cause they go to hospital and are given tiger snake antivenine and have an alergic reaction to it. I dont know how many or how true it is, but i am pretty sure we dont get tiger snakes around here!!!

Wouldnt that be all the more reason for the hospital to take great care to be sure before giving antivenom?
