Got to love the media, can't even get the few facts right!
The full story is still unknown at the moment but here are the facts as I know them at this point in time and are subject to correction. Firstly the incident was not at the guy's house it was at the local public pool. From what I have been told by staff at the pool he had caught the snake sometime earlier in the pool toilets, possibly the day before, and had put it in a jar. For some unknown reason he got it out of the jar this morning and it dropped on his foot and bit him on his toe. He then caught it again and put it back in the jar. A few minutes later he collapsed in the back office breaking his nose and cutting open his forehead. Apparently he was still conscious although confused and kept saying it was a taipan. From what I have been told the people who found him did not apply a compression bandage but concentrated on his bleeding instead. He was taken by ambulance to Proserpine hospital where the results of the SVDK did not show positive for Taipan but I do not know what the actual result was. He was subsequently air lifted to Mackay hospital where a second test was performed, at this stage I have not heard what the result of that test was. I spent an hour this afternoon looking for other snakes at the pool this afternoon as he kept saying there were more and he was concerned for the kids at the pool, unfortunately I was not able to find anything.
When I hear more I will let you know.
