i was just having a check up on all my snakes and one had its mouth slightly open i thought this was weird some decided to spray him with some water he kept yawning (maybe one every 15 seconds) i then started touching him, of course he looked at me defensively with tongue flicks but still kept yawning.
is there anything wrong with my little buddy?
cheers liam

i did read that excessive yawning could be a sign of RI.

or maybe hes stretching his skin to shed or something?

iv actually been worried about this guy he didn't eat for six months till i offered him live. he hasnt eaten since then which was 3 weeks ago. the tip of his tongue looks white and sometimes he dose half tongue flicks where he keeps the fork of his tongue together and only pokes it out half way but he mixes this with proper tongue flicks. not sure if he is weird or sick.

You might be boring?
Or has he recently fed and is realigning his jaw?

Is he due a shed?

Hi Liam

My python was doing the same thing last year and I have actually just noticed she has started doing it again recently (so looks like another trip to the vet). got told it was RI, she had a couple of injections and i got given a bottle of 0.2% Chlorhex solution to rub on her nostrils as she had a plug like blockage in them.

Is your snake making a hissing noise when it yawns as that was one of the things mine was doing?

Betty (my python) also hadnt eaten for around 6 months before i noticed the yawning, I just put it down to the cooler winter temps in the beginning because it wasnt the first time she had been ages without a feed

id take him to the vets hun.

Get him to a vet ASAP mate. While a snake yawning is not a big deal, a snake yawning a lot and particularly as much as yours is suggests a problem. Best to play it on the safe side and get him checked out.

Good luck and let us know how you go.

what would be the best vet in south brisbane?

If the fork is stuck together this could be a sign of RI.

I've heard that Deborah Monks at Brisbane Bird & Exotics is god with reptiles. They're in Macgregor. There's also Clayton Knight but he's on the north side of Brisbane in Deception Bay.

dose brisbane birds and exotics know what there doing? i know the vet connected to it is great. one of the only places doing steam cell treatment.

Okay i need more advice. He shed his skin last night (as i predicted) and now he is acting like a completely healthy specimen lots of perfect tongue flicks, no yawning. Actually looks very hungry. should i offer him a rat or take him to the vet.

have you had a listen to see if you can hear any wheezing or crackling\popping from the breathing? cant see any mucus from the nose no snot bubbles:p ? if that's the case and it is RI sound like your onto it early and that's good, but who knows perhaps he had 1 Yawn cos he was bored now his jaw feels funny so keeps trying to adjust it.

If there is a clicking noise when he/she yawns then I would have cause for concern, but otherwise yawning in all my olives occurs every now and then.

no wheezing or crackling. he shed last night so i was thinking maybe his skin was irritating him.

Good to hear mate and you may find it was just a prep for the shed but if he carries on after it, get it checked out.
