I have a juvie inland python whom I think has mites. I picked her up tonight and noticed just around her eyes is white like her scales have lifted and a bunch of tiny black mites crawling out from under her actual eyes!! :( Also a few here and there over her body, which decided to crawl onto me too!
I work every day from 9 til 7 for another 3 days so the pet shop wont be open to purchase any sprays, etc. Is there anything at all I can do for her until I can get down there??? I feel really horrible.
Oh, and will bathing drown the ones on her or is it pointless? As I was thinking of bathing her and putting her in a click clack for a while so I can clean her tank thoroughly and finally get some sprays.

Put it in a click clack with about 25mm (1 inch) of water in it, add a couple of drops of diswashing liquid, place the snake in the water, and put the lid on. Leave it overnight and most, if not all, of the mites on the snake will drown. Leave it in the water for 24 hours, in the meantime, go to the supermarket tomorrow, buy a Mortein cockroach/flea bomb, and when you get home, remove and dispose of (in a plastic bag which you can tie off) all the cage furnishings, substrate (paper etc) and remove from the room. Open the cage, place the flea bomb in the room and set it off as per the instructions, removing the snake (in the click clack), and close the doors, leave for 3 hours. Open the room, allow to ventilate for an hour or so, then refurnish theenclosure using new stuff, place the snake in the enclosure, and you should have no more trouble.

The detergent wets the mites and drowns them very quickly. The bombs have a residual effect, but the chemical is a hormone, not a poison, so it won't hurt your snake, but will continue killing hatching mites until they are all gone.

Jamie.

Look up a post called "got mites" it's a sticky (at the top of page) in the section herp help. It will tell you everything you need to know about treating mites. Mac mite spray is designed to kill mites and works really well.

The biggest thing with treating mites is you have to treat asap before they spread to much.
