Hi all my girlfriend emailed this to me thought i might put it up here to

PK

Melbourne Snakebusters have just removed 8 live and dangerous Tiger Snakes (Notechis scutatus) from Kagan Brothers factory warehouse in Pipe Road, Laverton North.

The snakes were part of a litter born in the factory last week.

Besides the 8 live snakes recovered by snake catcher Raymond Hoser, was another stillborn snake, which was near about 15 shed skins.

Three others had been found in the two days prior, bringing the total to twelve!

This indicated that a female snake had entered the factory to give birth.

Because the factory warehouse was effectively sealed, the young snakes were unable to escape and hence were found by forklift drivers and other workers.

The adult female hasn't yet been seen.

As Tiger Snakes usually have from 20-40 young, it's thought more young snakes may be lurking in the factory.

It's thought that the female snake had emerged from nearby vacant land. That land was "snake-heaven" being littered with rocks, rubbish and other debris.

The recovered snakes were later released at Little River (past Werribee).

Tiger Snakes are responsible for about 40% of all snakebite deaths in Australia.

February/March is when most snakes in Melbourne have babies and hence snake sightings tend to spike somewhat at this time of year.

The best way to avoid snakebite it to avoid snakes. If you see one, walk the other way.

If a snake is seen in a built-up area where kids or pets are at risk, then it's best to call a licenced snake catcher.

It's illegal to kill snakes and most bites occur when inexperienced people try to catch or kill snakes.

Snake plague update - Mother snake found in Melbourne factory

Media release dated 4 March 2003

Melbourne Snakebusters have just identified a 3 foot, three inch Tiger Snake as the mother of the 12 young found so far in the Kagan Brothers factory warehouse in Pipe Road, Laverton North.

The smaller snakes were part of a litter born in the factory last week.

The female was accidentally killed by a factory worker.

As Tiger Snakes usually have from 20-40 young, it's thought more young snakes may be lurking in the factory, even though in this case the female was at the smaller end of the size range.

Tiger Snakes are responsible for about 40% of all snakebite deaths in Australia.

Two other snake stories have been in the news this week.

Also in Melbourne quarantine and wildlife officials recovered a parcel containing two American Rattlesnakes smuggled in from Sweden.

It had been posted to Australia.

In Sydney, well-known snake breeder Shane Scarff had several valuable Australian Pythons stolen from his Liverpool facility.

The thieves made a false call to his home and got him to leave the house, whereupon the thieves entered and ransacked the house and took snakes and other valuables.

It's likely that the snakes will be sent overseas (illegally) as they are probably unsaleable in Australia due to the fact that they'd be readily recognized as the snakes belonging to Scarff.

This is the latest of several thefts of collections in recent times, including a major theft in Darwin of another breeder's collection

im very surprised this is not locked yet or hasnt had more comments about the snake catcher himself.

snakes

most impressive to see the slagging being kept to a minimum on this thread, but having checked out a few bits of "his" website i just want to mention one bit that amused me.

"To get vaguely regular work, you must be prared to drop everything and go get a snake on a 24 hour basis and the "snake calls" come in at times like when you are sleeping, having sex, on the beach or in the toilet."

not sure if he is referring to getting calls while sleeping having sex, having sex on the beach or having sex in the the toilet.

don't know about you guys but i tend to sit on the toilet rather than in it, but each to their own. maybe his aim is not very good.

i dont think he would get much sex to be honest, if you have seen him you'll understand.

reptiles

no i haven't had the dubious pleasure of meeting him.
maybe he doesn't get much sex because he has had his "glands" removed for safety reasons!

Does he have dogs?

I've actually written out three messages to post on this thread, then thought better of it and cancelled. It's so difficult.

it is you have to refrain yourself alot unfortunetly as it is a family site lol

I dont restrain myself, I usually speak my mind! Most people don't like it... but too bad!!
