Certainly had an impact on me too, it brought back all the thoughts and emotions I experienced in January last year when a family friend died after he'd been travelling at 120kms in a 60km zone. A truck came out of driveway, and Kevin hit his front brakes locking them up, he was thrown from his bike and went under the truck. As well as that he smashed his head against a power pole, he didn't die instantly either, he died in the gutter gasping for air.

Here's a Google maps image of where it happened, number one is where Kevin hit the brakes, number two is where the truck came out of the driveway, and number 3 is the pole he hit. The skid marks started parallel to the smash repairs sign, and went all the way to the pole.

Watching that video makes me angry.

I had written up a full response, but I don't think its worth it because no matter what you say, there will be some kid having an accident tonight...... good luck to them.

Unfortunately there will always be people who do stupid things, but the roadwhyz program has worked for some people. These kinds of this don't work for everyone, but it certainly had an effect on my 16 year old brother, he bawled his eyes out after watching this. It relies heavily on people's emotions which won't work on everyone, but seeing a mother who lost her two sons speak to high school students was very sad, and had some of the students crying. Having someone from emergency services there seems to help too, he can explain what he sees and deals with all the time, it helps bring the reality of it home.

I think it's important for people to see the effect things like this have on the family and friends of road accident victims, I know exactly how these people feel, it's one of the worst feelings you can get when this happens, and the fact that it can avoided makes it worse. My family and I were with our friend who died speeding on his motorcycle every day for a week after the accident, and it was really tough. There were heaps of people at the funeral including the truck driver, I wish I’d been able to speak to him, the day of the accident he was taken to hospital for shock, and he had to have time off work. There’s nothing he could have done, but I’m sure he felt guilty about it anyway.

My family and I went to the scene of the accident and picked up pieces of Kevin’s motorcycle, we have two plastic bags with pieces of it. We know of two other people who also took things from the scene, we didn’t want Anna to see it when she went to the scene, it was bad enough already. Here are a couple of articles that were in the Geelong Advertiser about it:

Motorcyle rider dies in one of two serious crashes on district roads | Geelong, VIC, Australia

The woman mentioned in the article was a friend of Anna's, she was on her way over to Anna's house after being told about Kevin's death when she had her accident.

Wife and sons say goodbye | Geelong, VIC, Australia
