Right here
I'm at work right now and I just popped out for a quick smoke.

Lots of gunfire cracking away not too far off. I guess there is another Roo cull going on in Canberra.

Either that or Julia doesn't want another haircut from Tim. Oh wait.......they're in Melb tonight.

roo cull ?
do they go around shooting roos ?
sorry stupid question

The culls are organised within designated areas and have safety protocols in place, they don't just drive around looking for roos to shoot.

It's neat fun when you go the permit for it... just doesn't feel right though. Here I don't think they do anything with them and you're not allowed to touch them yourself once they fall.

I have no idea what they do with the carcass here. More likely just dump them in a landfill. The nearest roo chiller that I know of is about an hour out of Canberra and I doubt the cullers would field dress them and take them that far out.

While I don't really agree with widespread culling that happens (recently 5000 were shot in one weekend) here I can understand it. From the front door of my work last week I have counted over 300 roos in one paddock, 80 of then were within 50 metres of me. I have no problem with professional shooters shooting for meat and hides though.

yeah population control sucks but has to be done i guess.

also believe their is a bounty on foxes and wild dogs now

There is a bounty on foxes in Vic, not too sure about dogs though. There sure needs to be. There is no money in fox skins anymore so there are less people shooting them.

Dogs are a huge problem around the ACT. Many graziers on the western border, up in the the brindabella ranges, have had HUGE stock losses over the recent years. There are a few doggers working up in there but not many. Because there is so much national park up there the dogs are almost untouched. The main breeding grounds are in the Gudgenby valley, right in the middle of Namadgi. Dogs have now been considered as an apex predator in Namadgi National Park and as a result there are no control measures.

The roo's would be used for dog meat and to supply supermarkets for their roo products. There is more Roo's in Aus then human beings, that's a fact. They cull them on many farms, for crops and other resources we rely on. Nobody likes it, but sometimes it has to be done.

There's plenty more out there. On one property I go on, the roo's are everywhere. You can l turn 360 degrees and see countless mobs of roos.

The Roo shooters out there get the big bucks, they leave the baby's and doh's.

Yeah mate. I know some pro shooters that are pulling in $1500 a night

That's crazy I'm sick of hitting Roos on the way to work.

Cheers Brenton
