Hi:)

i have the above 14 mth old snake. I've had it for 4mth & is our 1st snake. A couple of wks ago I noticed it drinking all the time from water bowl. It has been shedding & eating normally. Temp of enclosure is high 20's.

Over last couple of days it became very bloated, very lethargic, not reacting, very slow shallow breathing - almost dead looking, it was bearly breathing

We took it to vet who drained 30mL of clear fluid from the snake. there is no mite problem. It is at vets. The vet has never seen this condition before.

Does anyone have any explanation for this condition?

cage only high 20's? If that is at high end then it's too cold by far. Don't know what the problem could be, but he might not have digested some food properly and it could have gone bad...

do you know where the fluid was drained from? it could have been around or in the lungs which could explain the shallow breathing, this could be caused from too low temps or respiratory infection

are your vets reptile specialists?

if your around sydney area id suggest going to see a vet named david vella, you need to see someone who knows what theyre doing(im not tryin to bag anyone but not all vets know much about reptiles)

hope hes ok

fluid was drained near base of tail, but fluid went up snakes body, At tail end, approx 40mm long, looked a bit shrivilled then body just bloated up ( 1cm thick ) covering most of body.

Vet is: Heathcote Veterinary Clinic - Home Page
