Spotted Tree Monitor or Lace Monitor?

I'm sorry to ask so many questions but I'm merging my pictures for a trip report ;-)
Is this a Varanus scalaris or a Varanus varius?
I took this picture in Atherton Tablelands...

Definitely a Lace Monitor. The markings on its tail are a give away.

Lace monitor. That spotted pattern is typical of lace monitors in north Queensland.
