about 6 weeks ago i brought a blond spotted python, as i do with all my new snakes i leave it in what it came in for a week then feed it then rehouse after 2 weeks if needed, i haven't had any probs till i got the spotted, the owner told me he was feeding it garden skinks as it wont eat pinkies as its to small yet but that is just rubbish, i tried to feed it a pinkie a week later but was not interested at all, so 1 week later i tried again still nothing, so then each week i tried something new, what i have tried is this, braining the pinkie, rubbing it on my blue tongue skink, moving it to make it look like a lizard (epic fail), rubbing it on my bearded, turning the heat up a bit letting it sit there for 1 week at the temp and trying again, and leaving the pinkie out to thaw out in the room and get a tad smelly, each time i leave it in with it overnight, have tried feeding it of a day afternoon and night, it will not have anything to do with it at all, i don't know what else i can do besides feeding it a skink (witch i wont do as it could have anything in it), the next thing i thought of is to cut it in half (the pinkie) and seeing if it will take it, anyone had this problem if so what did you do to get it to eat pinkies?

dont try live .. try scenting it with a skink or qual and make sure the pinkie is warm

i got a spotted aweek ago and it feeds on pinkies but the smallest ones you can find and the i let it defrost in warm water the just before i feed it i ad a bit of boilling water then it takes it straight away try holding it and the dangle it in front of him

temp is 32c jas and yeah mate iv had it for 6 weeks plenty of time to settle in, i will def try skink urine, the pinkie is always warm when i feed it james

I have a spotted who has only eaten 1 pinkie, she won't eat them either she will lay against the oppisite wall to where the pinkie is, just to get away from it, I have tried brianing , it worked once only, I just give fuzzies that works well, she never knocks them back, My spotted is a yearling.

same as mine it never ate untill someone told me to get a chicken egg scramble it and put it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds and then smother a defrosted mouse/rat pinkie it ate strate away and now will only eat if its got egg on it but im starting to slowly reduce the amout of egg and hopefully it will start to feed without egg

Not much help I know but , ask if you can send it back , i can not understand why you would purchase or why the seller would sell a spotted only eating skinks ...

In the mean time i suggest you scent pinkies with skink and try to get it eating them that way , a little piece of skink tail in the mouth of a pinkie might help too .

I agree, To me it speaks a lot about the husbandry experience ( lack there of)
of the person who bred the snake!

Spotteds are the easiest of the Antaresia to get feeding from hatching, Resorting to skink feeding is at best lazyness!

I cant understand WHY people scent pinkys etc,Theres absolutely no need to especially if it was feeding prior to purchasing. All i see is one problem followed with another problem. In most cases snakes that were eating prior to buying and suddently stopped, obviously theres a problem, temperature related-stress-being handled-to much noise etc.with eliminating those problems and having the correct husbandry, then it should-will eat.So if its eating a scented pinky, then i would decrease the amount of scent each time and after a few weeks it should just eat a pinky without any scent..Best of luck..I havent had much experience with Anteresias, but have got a Bhp and a green that didnt eat for 12months.As well as quiet a few carpets...PATIENCE is a key with dealing with fussy-non feeders..Best of luck..

I will NEVER understand why anyone with an ounce of conscience would sell a hatchling only eating skinks. This person gives the hobby a bad name.
