Still hungry

My 2 yo coastal used to eat his rat and just curl up and digest, but lately he eats it and then just keeps nosing around his enclosure hunting for more. Are his rats not big enough? I can still see the big bulge in his belly, i would have thought if it was the size that was the problem, then he would just get hungry again sooner, but not keep acting like he is starving...... Is it simply because he can still smell rat? even then, he never used to do this....?

Any ideas?

is he fat ? if not give him another one and see if this settles him just dont let him get all sumo on ya

How big is the coastal and what rats are you feeding?

he's just over 2m, and i'm feeding him large/x lrg rats. they are big enough that you can see the bulge, but not as huge as some ive had in the past. he has finally settled down now... what do i feed him if i cant get bigger rats? bunnys?

Start giving him bigger feeds less offen, once any python reaches full size.
They stop putting the food into groth and just get fat and have health problems if over fed.

A 2 meter Coastal should only be feed once every 5 to 6 weeks.
Each feed should be larger though, Id give him 2 rabbits every 6 weeks.
Rabbits have almost no fat, where as XL Rats are full of fat.

coastals are pigs, they will normally eat anything in front of them.

What are the weights of the snake and the rats you're feeding?

i havent weighed him in a while, last time he was 4 or 5 kilos i think (i'm bad at guessing weights but i know he is much heavier now), but the rats totalled 500g (frozen) does the weight change when they thaw?

dont worry, i will definitely space out his feeding more when giving him 2, its just that i have them in the freezer, and have had trouble getting bigger ones (at a reasonable price). i have someone on the case for me though.... lol.
