hey guys
i have been having a problem with my stimmi
hes usually very placid and calm, but lately he has being trying to strike me every time i try to open the enclosure. i do take him out a lot and hes very used to being handled. i feed him every week
could anyone give me a reason as to why he is striking at me?

chickensnake: i havnt over handled him, i take him out 3 times a week or so
HOM3L3SS: he shedded 2 weeks ago so i dont think thats the problem

How do you handle him, do you just go in and grab him, or do you let him know that you're there for a few minutes first before you hold him and let him become aware of your smell. Do you pick him up slowly and gently. I pick my little bloke up quite a lot but I always make sure he knows I'm there and I go in very slowly and gently....never force him. If he doesn't want to come out, I don't force the issue.

i do let him know im there, but as soon as i open the enclosure which i do quite slowly, he goes straight to the striking position, before he started doing this, i would open the enclosure, let him know im there and then take him out gently

Have you tried leaving him totally alone for a week or so? He could be stressed, regardless of how often handled or how tame he usually is. Maybe he could also be hungry? Try giving him a decent feed and see if it changes his attitude.

Other than that remember he is a snake after all and not a toy.

Sorry can't think of anything else, except maybe trying him with an EXTRA feed !!! I've heard of these sorts of things happening and have wondered if my little bloke might turn on me one day, but not so far........!!!! Good luck !!

The only time my lovely little Stimmy bit me was because I forgot to feed him, but yours sounds well fed.

The other thing that sets him off if I'm not careful is if I brush past his fake plant when I reach in. He associates it with feeding, even if he isn't hungry, so I have to pull back and try another path. Dunno if that's what's setting yours off.

Good luck! I'm sure he'll come around - stimmies have such wonderful temperaments. ^_^

hes about 65cm and im feeding him pinkie rats, also i dont have a plant but i think i know whats wrong with him, thanks everyone for ur help.
