Hey folks,

I have a 2 year old Stimpson Python that has not eaten for 7 months. I've tried feeding him many many times, but to no avail. I am a first time owner and I understand they are notorious for going off food for months, especially in the winter, but I'm seriously considering taking him to the vet, unless there are any other options or suggestions.

Thanks :)

Perfectly normal for a Stimson's, especially in the cooler months, and doubly so if it's a male. You just have to be patient. Don't keep offering food at this time of the year, wait until there is consistent night time activity and then try food. The best thing to do with these snakes is to turn off the heat around May, and leave them until they become active again, which may not be until October/November.

Keep handling to an absolute minimum during this time - they are largely dormant in the wild, and handling and disturbance predisposes them to problems like RI. It also causes them to use more precious energy than they otherwise would during the cooler months.

Thanks Heaps Jamie! Very helpful tips! They are just incredible creatures. You saved me a vet bill. Cheers!

Hi, have u tried both mice and rats? what are your temps at the hot end, check them out.

One of mine wouldn't eat recently and I was recommended to dip the face of the rodent in egg and try that..... I did this and left it with the snake overnight and guess what, in the morning it was gone.... Worth a try, it worked for me!

Good luck :)

Wow 7 months (Thats more than a Quarter of its life lol).. i didn't know they could go that long without eating lol... Also why would you wait 7 months to ask about it haha
