Hi all,

So I feed my Stimson Python (a year old) one weaner mouse a week. I've noticed however he doesn't seem to be pooing. I've seen some urine (the white chalky stuff), but that's it. I can't remember the last time I saw poo (I'm guessing 2 weeks or so?).

My thoughts are either he's constipated, or perhaps I need to be feeding him more?
What size mice (or rats in that case) should I be aiming for with a 1 year old Stimon python? The weaner mice do leave a noticable bulge, but this almost seems to disappear after a day.

Cheers,

Mark

you should up his food a bit, i feed my 11 month old BHP 2 fuzzy rats every 5 -7 days.

that could be why he hasnt done a poo yet, you could prob give him 2, is he coming up for a shed ? Im now thinking of going up to weaner rats as i just fed my girl as we speak and i cant see any bumps.

I have a 12 month old Stimson and i was worried that my little guy was constipated too. I was feeding him 2 pinkies every 6 days and i think he was just absorbing the nutrients and not deficating due to this. I have been feeding him adult mice every 8 days for the past month and he is as regular as clock work. 3 days after a feed he does his business and all is good!
Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. He was coming up to a shed.. As soon as he finished, he did a massive poop :)
He doesn't really seem to poop much at all otherwise. Certainly not every time 3 days after being fed.
I guess I definitely need to be feeding him more, but I don't know what size I should go for.

Gawd... another defecation thread... Snakes don't 'go' like mammals 'go'. their physiology is quite different, their food needs are small, and their digestion and absorption is slow. They may 'go' once a week, they may hold off for a number of reasons, and 'go' once a month. Or even longer...

I think we need a sticky about this...
