Hi there,
just want ure opinions what is the best substrate for Shingleback Lizards, would luv to hear from peeople that have tried different things, and what works and doesnt work''
Is straw any good for winter or any time just to hide in? Ive heard this but not sure?

Thanks Guys/girls.....:?

Sandy loam works well. They dont really dig a burrow, instead they will dig under the edges of ground plants. You can also use bark chips, but they certainly will dissappear into that.

Cheers
Dustin

ive only tried newspaper and breeders choice, but newspaper was being changed everyday, breeders choice is changed weekly and doesnt seem to get too wiffy, its what i use now and have for the past year or so....

I have my pair on that Coco peat/Coir Peat block stuff. Works wonders at drying out theyre poo so it never gets a chance to smell, and if they injest it its not going to do much damage since its just dirt type stuff.
As for when they sleep, i have plastic plants screwed into the base of the enclosure and they just push theyre way under those to sleep..

shingles substrate''

Thanx heaps for those suggestions, i will try them out, see what happens...they do seem to like to push there way through everything'':rolleyes:

we first used news paper then we bought lizard sand so we can use the heat mat wich is cheaper then a heat lamp and make them more active and not so sleepy all the time.

I want your shingle Shari
Someone should sell me a WA form...

My friend who owns a breeding pair uses artificial turf. It doesn't get cold enough here to use anything other than a heat light, so it works perfectly well all year round. They're the sweetest little things too, always trying to get out of the cage for a cuddle!

I use rice hulls, bought bulk.. keeps humidity down to a minimum (aids in keeping away annoying respiratorys that they tend to get in syd) and perfect for burrowing under, holds great temps, last ages..cant say anything else is better.. ive tried newspaper, bark litter.. but nothing tops rice hulls

Midnight- you can have first pick out of the first litter of babies we get, all you have to pay is for it to get over to you...

I used a mixture of sand and sugar cane mulch but it just got too much hassle cleaning it out every 2nd week. I switched to marine carpet and put a few plastic plants and a hollow log as well as pipe. It seems to do the trick ok.

Shari you may be getting a little ahead of yourself, WC shingle backs arnt the easiest things to get to breed.
