makes you wonder about some people

A two-and-a-half metre crocodile created a traffic snarl in Cairns in far north Queensland this morning.

Drivers abandoned their cars and looked on as the crocodile sunned itself on Airport Avenue just after 7:00am AEST.

Police were sent to the area to direct traffic until the crocodile scampered into a nearby creek.

They say they are reasonably confident it was the same crocodile that went swimming off the Cairns esplanade near the city centre yesterday.

Wildlife authorities say while there is a healthy crocodile population in Cairns estuaries, they are not routinely seen on the city's foreshore.

Greetings from the wild and feral frontiers of Cairns. Yep the crocs are on the move which is to be expected at this time of year and they are popping up in all manner of places. The tidal drains that run through the city streets of Cairns are a favourite hangout, many of this running along our schools. A definate exageration in size of the croc on the esplanade but the prize for dummy of the day goes to the guy who went out for a swim off the front of the esplanade where the croc had been hanging around and got trapped in the mud with the tide going out and had to be rescued by a dinghy
As for a croc being on the airport road, the creek has a resident/s in there for a long while and the way some people just casually fish off the banks of this river is a little nerve wracking. Could you imagine being the more sedate traveller getting into Cairns and within 2 mins of leaving the civillity of the Airport come into contact with a croc? Would definately have you thinking what the rest of your stay in our beautiful city will hold.
