I had heard of this before but never experienced it myself, until last week...
I fed my 2 year old female Proserpine Carpet a defrosted rat last Monday. Everything went normal from what I observed & thought nothing of it. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary on the Tues, but on Wednesday night upon checking her enclosure I saw she had quite a noticeable swelling of her head.
Quite freaked out I removed her & had a look inside her mouth. No yellowy pussy stuff or anything, just a typical pink healthy looking mouth. I handled her for a little bit & couldn't hear any wheezing or anything. She was behaving fine & tongue flicking normally.
I put her back in her enclosure & started to remember that I had heard of this once or twice before. Random swelling of the head, usually after a meal. I watched her in her enclosure for a while & she was behaving normally.
I then took a few pics & decided to keep an eye on her for a couple of days before contacting a vet.
I checked her again the following day & everything seemed back to normal.
Five days later & still fine. I will feed her again tonight & keep a close eye on her again.
So as quickly as it came up, it went away!
I have kept other Morelia (Diamonds, Bredls, Scrubbies) for a number of years & never seen this before.
I've only had the Prossies for the past 2 years.
I hope this thread can help anyone else who sees this strange phenomenon in the future & I would love to hear of other peoples experiences with this.
Why does it happen?
Cheers,
Andrew
