I have recently seen a few Bearded Dragon statues. They are posed on termite mounds.

Are beardies interested in termites as a food source or is this just a little artistic licence?

I'm sure they'd eat them, but they would use large termite mounds as a basking site for sure. Just like they do with fence posts in agricultural Australia.

I knew a guy down in Ipswich, QLD who had a box full of termites and yeah he would feed them to his beardies - particularly the babies -they apparently loved em. Dont fancy if they get loose in your house though.

Yeah they are great food for most small lizards, dunno if they would get many in the wild though.

I use them to feed my lizards occasionally.

does anyone know if ya can buy termites??? If not, i live in an area with HEAPS of bush and there are HEAPS of termite mounds (like even 6ft +) does anyone think it a bad idea to go smash a hole in one and catch some for food???

Thanx...

Yeah bad idea, not only would you be destroying habitat used by geckos and possibly snakes, but you're also taking away food that lizards and heaps of other animals would otherwise be eating.

Hmmm, guess I should turn my mozzie zapper off then and start leaving stagnant pools of water around.

Why bother, the natural ecosystem was completely obliterated when you cleared the land to build that house of yours. A better idea would be to demolish your house and plant a few trees and plants. Then we can talk about leaving stagnant pools of water around.
