I want to thanks Shaun/Sean aka SHAMUS for giving me some snake sheds, I mean a shopping bag full of them, to take to the Daycare show and tell that I did.

The kids loved the snakes (most of the kids that is) and loved to see that a snake loses its skin every few months. Some kids said they planned on going home and asking their parents for a pet snake, and others wanted to cuddle and kiss my lil ones. It was so cute.

I have been asked to go back on a different day when different kids are looked after and also when mine are older/bigger. Good for snakes reputation in the community I think.

I had most kids happy to touch, two of the adult teachers/carers touched and held. And only one girl cried about the thought of them. I suggested she leave the room before I pulled them out..:p

So all in all, it was a good moment for me and i am sure the Kids.
Thanks all for the input........

My son in grade 7 took one of our snales to school for a presentation earlier this year, and it was the teachers, including a Male teacher that were more scared thn the children and would not even go close to a 6 month Stimsoni.

Since the presentation some good friends of ours, with a daughter in the class have obtained a licence and purchased their first snake.

It helps to spread the word around.

I have asked this question in another thread, but am really curious and want to ask here.... does anyone know if something like this (unofficial show and tell) is legal for me to do in NSW with NPWS?

Menagerie,
The question you asked has come up a number of times and on all occassions its been said that the national parks and wildlife will turn a blind eye so long as its like a one off thing and that the shower has a young relative in the school ect. People pay big bucks for the exhibitors licences that they obtain to do shows, so doing the shows on a regular basis will be taking the livelihood off the exhibitors, so a one off at your childs or nephews ect school isnt a bad thing.

Just be safe and re-iterate that the snakes can bite, and are unpredictable in their behaviour and that you take no responsibility if a bite does happen. So long as your rules are adhered to then the school shouldnt have any dramas.

True what Teamsherman has said,
However, you have no public liability nor does the schools insurance cover your "display". So if anything horrible was to happen such as an animal biting or scratching a child you can expect to a law suit to be slapped on you &/or the school administration.

Yes I agree it is a good thing, BUT there is no way Id stress my animals out by taking them to a school for show and tell. I used to do displays and talks on reptiles comercially a number of years back at schools, malls, etc and I know the stress the animals go thru. None were my animals and on the odd occasion when the boke I worked for asked me to take one of mine I refused. In fact when I stopped working for him QPWS asked me a number of times to apply for a demonsrators lic but I even said to them that I would not subject my animals to such torment. Yes I know it has to be done but just not with my animals thank you.

Everyone has their own opinion I know...But I dont think it stresses the animals out "That Much"... Maybe a lil... But For the good that it does making snakes reputation in the community better...I think it is worth it... After all I later fund out in the afternoon when I picked my boy up.. That several of the Kids asked their Mum or Dad if they could get a pet snake..... Sounds GOOD to me..
