... will be gone of Sunday. I will offically have no more hots. I'm trading my last pair of Nothern Pacific Rattlesnakes for some het Burms. I'm kinda sad to see them go and kinda relieved. I've enjoyed the challenge of keeping hots, but I just can no longer justify the inherent risk envolved. But always looking forward...

vens for asian giants, thatd send the food bill up a bit!

so your wagler's should be at my place wen ?

what happened to the temple vipers and white lipped viper?

Put a cancel on them. I was supposed to get a whole $h!t load of albino Monocle Cobras too, but nope. My wife still really wants more wagleri, and some various Crotalus but I don't know. I'm way more likely to keep wagleri than anything else. As for now, though, no hots at all. Unless you count my Tarantuals, and my Widows.

My reasoning behind this decision is that I have recently discoved that I have an allergy to antivenin. Contrary to popular belief, all the riskes I take are calculated. Part of my calculations for working with hots was the use of antivenin in the eventuality of a bite. Now that it's not an option, I just don't think it's a good idea. I like being alive. Besides Retics are way cooler! :D

how did you find out that you were allergic?

Well I'm very allergic to horses. Which kinda sucks cuse I have 2. But anyway, that got me thinking about horse serum. I talked with Dr. Fry (a toxinologist) about what caused the allergy to horse serum. He told me it was the same proten that causes the allergy to horses in general. That proten is present in equine blood. So the chances are very good that I'm also allergic to horse serum. I also did some research into anaflalactic(sp?) shock combined with envenomation. Not good...

isnt there any sort of a test you can do to see. i know that putting antivenom on skin is pointless, but cant something like testing antivenom against a blood sample be done?

Wise choice Kevyn, my youngest is anaphylactic to cashews and peanuts. She has to be within 60sec of an adrenaline injection (epipen) 24/7.

Tommo, I have anaphylactic reaction to penicillen which apparently some people grow out of, but I cant find a doctor antwhere prepared to take the risk with a test, even at a hospital they wont touch it.

Mr ex wife offered but thats another story.

Good choice Kevyn.

Michael

I wish I could have a test done. It's not like Cobra antivenin is a common comodity around here. There's Crofab (rattlesnake serum) but no doctor would waste what little there is on a test. Alas...

Oh well I may pick up more Wagler's Temple Vipers in the future. With no human fatality ever recorded and mild venom combined with a very docile nature, I'm fairly comfortable with them and Meaghan loves them. She wants a Pigmy Rattler too but...

I'm getting some great Burms for them, hets and double hets so I'm excited. I'll be pretty much set for Burms come Sunday. Now I need more Retics and some of the Python curtus members. My evil plan draws closer to fruition. Bwahahahahahahahah.   :D :D :D

:p Hey kevyn i have a question for you(might be way off),after reading the GTS thread & hearing that somone has died from a bts bite got me thinking when i seen you are alergic to antivenom. So my question is could this possible make you more susceptible to snake venoms at all?

cheers popp :p

Michael, if your near Sydney get your GP to refer you to RPA's allergy unit. Doc's there just specialised in this stuff, don't let anyone else talk you into the "suck it and see" approach.

Nope. What I am allergic to in the antivenin is a protein that is found in horse blood. So it has nothing to do with the venom and everything to do with horses.

Its a real shame about you having to give up your venomous snakes, But a smart decision in the end.
There a plenty of none venomous snakes out there so I am sure you will enjoy these just as much.

Thanks Craig,

I am in Cairns but I'll give them a call and try to schedule something for next time I am down there.
