I swear there was a thread on this before but can't find it for the life of me.

bugger! stupid ipad

anyway, as I was saying - where is the best place to put the probe, at present I have it sitting almost directly under the heat lamp and light in one enclosure and onto of the heat cord in a click-clack. I figured this would allow me to have the heat end set to what I want.

However I was reading an article on a website (SXR I think) that said that the probe should be away from the heat source so that it measures only the air temp, and now I'm confuse!

So brains trust, where is the best place to put the probe?

if you question is where do you place the thermostat,
i put my thermostats right on the hot spot, under the lamp or on top of a heat mat on 32 degrees.
the rest of the cage stays room temperature.

I generally set mine up similar to this - http://www.herpshop.com.au/pdf/PulseOz.pdf , with the probe just off the side of the basking spot/heat source, obviously the narrower the heat source the closer the probe should be situated. positioning the probe vertically is important too, generally higher up for things like jungles/GTP and lower down for terrestrial sp, basically the probe should be positioned at the same level the animal spends most of the time. Normally I start be setting the thermostat a few degrees lower then the ideal basking temp, then measure basking spot temp and adjust thermostat accordingly for example in my jungle enclosure, the thermostat is set at 31.5 and gives a temp of 33.5 directly under the CHE

As for the click clack, I sit the probe directly on the floor of the hot end
