Hi all

Ursula, my BHP goes to the bathroom to defecate on Day 5 after she eats and is on the grass. No ifs, buts or maybes! And she does it all without Metamucil! :)

Its been fine as it is summer and the weather is ok, but I was wondering if anyone does anything to stop them defecating in their enclosure and mimic what you can do in the warmer months? I heard some python owners in Melbourne grab a large click-clack with fake turf on the bottom and then clean it up.

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks
Morris

There is no such thing as toilet training a python. It is the movement that makes them defecate. During winter I either let him poo in his enclosure, let him slither on the lino where it is easy to clean up or put down a plastic play mat and let him slither on that.

One of my python's favourite tricks is waiting until I have cleaned his enclosure and "exercised" him then put him back in his enclosure, and then he deciding to defecate. So if you figure out a way to toilet train them let me know. :)

I think it comes down to timing, if you know they go roughly 5 days after a feed, take them outside and let them have a slither around.

Reb01, theres no need to be sarcastic.

5-6 days after feeding our coastal we put her out the back on the lawn give it 10 minutes and ALL DONE ,take her back inside to a clean enclosure !! :D
