gday all.. i was wondering what people have found to be the best way to move a tarantula from one enlosure to another.

so everyone with spiders please tell me the best way to safely (for me and them) to move them

cheers
Osk

People use a lot of different ways. What I do most of the time though basically is to just use an old cricket container (like a plastic Chinese container) and a pair of tweezers or something and just sort of direct the spider from behind it to inside the container and then put the lid on (you don't really wanna push the T too hard or anything just sort of "entice" it to moving where you want it to so to speak).

Another easy way is to get the spider out into the open of the enclosure and put a glass or cup over it. Then slide a thin piece of cardboard under the glass and the spider and then pick it up (hopefully the cardboard was strong enough).

Other people just either pick the spider up or use something to sort of direct it onto the palm of your hand and then just pick it up.

Hope that helps :D

tried the putting th container on the top of it out in the open.. ended up loosing my plumpies as it took off and i couldmt catch it... was thinking there woudl be an easier way

nah, easyest way is to just put a container in and chase it in the lid on, what do you keep?

Wow… that’s no good (you mean the spider actually made a break for it in your house somewhere?). I guess you’re talking about slings then (as I know they can get a bit of speed up).

Anyways are you moving the T to an enclosure the same size? If the old one is smaller maybe try putting the old one inside the new one and sort of “tip” the T in that way using pencil or something being very careful not to make the drop too big or that anything from inside the old enclosure falls on it etc?

Only other thin I can think of is actually letting the T “escape” the old enclosure inside a larger plastic container or something and moving it that way? Just a thought (I’ve always been able to move mine by either container or in certain cases by hand).

Other than that I am still trying to think. I’ll have a look in a few books now and see if they have any ingenious ideas.

i did it outside so its mot running around in the house... it living somewhere in the retaining wall.. had a 10cm leg span aprox

will have to do the chasing fomr one to the other... putting some in larger tanks now as they are gettign bigger...

1 i have is a townsville one (got from bylo)
1 i got from a shop and am usure exatly what sp it is
and 2 slings (about 3cm leg span) i got are unidentifed slings

Ahhh… Bad luck man. Hopefully you’ll come across it again one day and all is good. Yeah I’ve had 2 slings over the years get out on me in the house and I got one back a week later (I did a whole room search and he was living in my amp) and another was just in the middle of my room one night when I turned the light on (about 3 months after it had gotten out). Since then I’ve been careful that there are absolutely no holes in the stockings I put over the little Kritter-Keepers.

Yeah probably the best idea if you’re doing it outside is to scoop all the dirt out of the smaller container with basically only the spider in it and have the new one all setup so you basically just tip it in to the new one (carefully how far you let it drop as spiders can’t take heights too well and get injured easy) and put the lid on straight away so it can’t do another bolt job on ya.

Hope all goes well and you eventually find your AWOL too :D
