I was in bed with my gf and i felt a shake for a few seconds, i ignored it to start with and then it started shaking enough for me to get up the missus. (she rocks her self to sleep, so i thought it was her lol)
Anyways (We are on the 24th floor of our apartments by the way)
The missus sister lives down the corridor and she rang freaking out so we all met infront of the lift. All only wearing a towel, (Stupid to use the lifts i know, but i have a bad back injury from the army and i cant move down those stairs quick enough)
So we got down the bottom and there were lots of people down there freaking out and kind of laughing at Myself and two girls standing half naked with only towels on. Haha i could imagine what they were thinking lol.
As i got out side of the apartments i realised i forgot my snakes ( i have 2 woma pythons) So i asked my neighbour if i could borrow his buzzer to get back up onto the 24th floor , (I left my buzzer upstairs) I grabbed the snakes and i got the hell out of there!
I think we all over reacted but being 24 floors up isnt a good feeling when the place is shaking lol, it turns out there was a earthquake in the sea near indonesia Which measured 7.3 on the richtur scale.
And now, now it is time for me to sleep
Goodnight fellow herpers :)

haha great story. i remember when there was an earthquake here, i was lying on the couch and my sister was on the couch behind and i went to turn around to tell her off for kicking my couch but it was an earthquake :D

What does your missus say about your girlfriend? ......8)

shes cool with it as long as I look after her first and the girlfriend/s later..
theres a definite pecking order with the girls

Now an earthquake in Aussie is a big thing... Seeing as Australia is the most tectonically boring land on earth :p

Though I have to admit I miss my earthquakes and I'd prefer an earthquake than a cyclone...

Went through a month or so of aftershocks after a decent 6.7 on the Richter Scale at Arthurs Pass (1994). The thing I remember the most about it was the chandeliers smashing into the ceiling. No real damage... But the earth moved!

And already this year there's been some huge earthquakes around the world... 2009 Fiordland earthquake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's only a matter of time though before a big tsunami hits Australia - surrounded from the north, and east by the Pacific Ring of Fire and NZ is aptly named the Shaky Isles. The earthquake above triggered a tsunami alert but nothing eventuated.

I think we're a bit safer up here in the far north with the Great Barrier Reef - but there are areas of NSW that have a very high danger associated with tsunami.

And that tsunami is going to accompanied by a storm surge during a cyclone to reap ultimate chaos and carnage on Australia.

We've had a few decent shakes up here. I remember one when i was about 19 big enough to feel waves going up and down like ur on a boat and then it shifting into kinda sideways shimmy movement. That one inspired me to go outside lol.

I've never actually ducked for cover yet during an earthquake (nor done the correct thing and hid under a doorway).

First earthquake I was in I was in bed, I mean, it was only 9:30am... So I wasn't about to move.

Second major earthquake I was at a pub... It was while I was trying to carry two jugs to my table, I wondered why i was spilling so much and I'd only had two glasses prior.

The loudest earthquake woke me up at around 5:30am and the room was absolutely shaking - doors were rattling... Things falling down... you know, the usual... But I figured it'll all be over soon so why bother wasting a perfectly good sleep in.

The big one at Arthurs Pass inspired me too - I decided I'd look out the window to see if the powerlines were shaking. Unfortunately they were all underground wires but it was fun to watch the cars swerving on the road. And one even beeped at another one for his crazy driving!!!

Scared the @#$% out of me! first one Ive felt, quite a rude awakening at midnight, I also headed for the lifts, then thought better of it and looked for the stairs....

we were only 4 floors up, It must have been quite a ride 24 floors up!
