This little bugger ended up in my back yard after all the rain we have had over the past few weeks...

is this a Eastern saw shell ? Murry?

Ive never been much of a turtle buff apart from what i see in rivers camping...

Looks like a saw shell. The splitting and lumping has been pretty crazy with turtles in the last 5 or so years so im not sure on the official name, but Wollumbinia latisturnum would be my guess.

thanks Cris

I was heading that direction...but just thought id ask first...
I put it into one of my ponds to get rid of the bugs and mozzie lave..
Are they fine to just let go in the local river?

Legal issues aside they should be fine to release into the local water, wouldnt hurt showing them their way to where ever you think they may do well in your local area. Im sure many would just get washed into the sewer and become mutants, from there they may develop ninja skills and cause trouble for local criminals.

hahaha....

i know a few great spots here,,,i will just have to check first that they wont disrupt the natives there..

dont want to release it where there might be other turtle species..

At home in Bahrs Scrub (near Mt. Warren Park) our dam is full of Murrays and Saw shelled turtles. This guy definitely looks like a saw shell. Chances are if you release it, theres already saw shells around anyway (there are quite a few massive adults in our dam- I wouldn't be surprised if they are elsewhere as well)

well seeings i live just near the Bahrs Scrub border im sure that will be fine,,,

Thanks Kitah

No probs :) Just release it where there's plenty of water that doesn't dry up, lots of aquatic vegetation + fish, if you can (which is what I'm sure you were planning on doing, anyway)
