I'm thinking about getting a turtle or two at the end of the year. I have a 3ft tank, I have all the lights, filters ect. and I was wondering what kind of turtle would go good in a 3ft tank. I think the dimension's are 900L, 400D, 450H. Thats just a estament, i'll chase the dimensions up later, I have to wait for my dad to get home with a tape measurer.
Another question,
I believe you can old them, but how long? I'm thinking, no more then 5minutes?

Thanks guys.

if me hold them, yes you can hold them but there not very fun to hold careful putting them flat out on your hand while there young as they will just run and might fall off.

my bigger one's i let out on the grass to run around and stuff but yeah as i said holding them gets boring there not like a snake you just let hang on you

Thanks, I thought I might set it up in the lounge room, something different then the traditional fish.
Sorry, but I have a few other questions.
Is there a good begginer turtle, or any turtle?
Do I just wack hatchling's straight in a tank, or do they need to be in something small like you would do with a python?

Thanks again.

My friends snake neck hates her but never bites.(unusaul)It really scratches her so we have to hold it by the bum!!!!

there all pretty much the same i personally like saw-shell best long necks are to common and they look slightly cooler the murrays.

they dont have to be in a small tank just dont have the water to deep as they arn't good swimmers and can drawn

I have 4 of them at home - two in a pond outside and the other two in a 4ft turtle tank (dock mounted at the back in the middle)
Depending on age and size, the water level needs to be at a level that they can stand on something and stick there heads out. Like fish the more space the better.

Now depending on how much you feed it (over feed / feed correct amount) depends on how long they will last in that size tank. My first two that I over fed lasted about 12months before I had to dig them a pond outside. there pond is 2mx3m.
The two that I have inside are about 14mths and they are still fine. I find the best thing to do to give them more swiming room is to geive them plenty to climb on without take away too much open water and then as they get bigger take things out

try not to over feed them its really easy to do as they are always begging for food but once a day is plenty dont let them fool you into thinking they are hungry

They are like fish, you go to the front of the tank, they look all cute and want food
Young get feed once or twice a day of small feedings, larger get feed 2-3 times a week
